The theme for ISSUE 16 is PERFORMANCE.

Performance is rarely associated with the textual medium or the medium of still visual art. What does performance mean to you then? When do you feel like you’re performing? What do you associate with the concept? Do you have ways of thinking where the text and still visuals can be seen as a performance? Performance as the schism between ‘feel like’ and ‘seen as’.

The theme is meant to be taken as a prompt rather than a restriction. We are not looking for you to answer the above questions. They are merely suggestions surrounding the theme in order to kickstart a line of thought for you.
What we are looking for is for you to make the theme your own and show us your explorations with it. You can play with the theme, go beyond it, subvert it, appropriate it, experiment with it. All that matters is you staying personal, passionate and raw with whatever you create.

Prompt words: self, ‘the other’, gaze, anxiety, release, catharsis

Submission guidelines:

  • Fiction- 1000 to 3000 words
  • Creative Nonfiction- upto 2000 words
  • Poetry- upto 3 poems
  • Art- 5 to 10 pieces
  • Photography- 5 to 10

However, we also welcome work that defies the above categories or flows fluidly through many.

It looks like you’ve misspelled the word “salem” on your website. I thought you would like to know :). Silly mistakes can ruin your site’s credibility. I’ve used a tool called SpellDoc.com in the past to keep mistakes off of my website.
